I worked at two other chiropractic offices as a part time contractor.

I’ve been a professional massage therapist since 2015. I’m passionate, professional about what I do.

I love to go fishing, crabbing to relax and smell the ocean breeze, camping to relax with nature. I enjoy weightlifting, road cycling, martial arts, horseback riding (when I can), and other sports. What I love and enjoy the most besides being a massage therapist is teaching traditional

Muay Thai, I have been practicing traditional Muay Thai back in 1994 and to this day (sometimes now).

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy uses essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. Claims to improve psychological well-being. It is used as a complementary therapy or as a form of alternative medicine.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. It can relieve muscle pain and stiffness and provide for the body and mind. Deep tissue is a massage technique that's mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of the muscle and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissues that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reduce inflammation.

Expect heavy deep pressure, elbows, knuckles, fingertips to strip, lengthen to release taunted and stubborn tight muscles.

There are reports that deep tissues massage helps with:

  • sports injuries

  • fibromyalgia

  • plantar fasciitis

  • high blood pressure

  • sciatic

  • tennis elbow, etc.

Deep tissues may not be SAFE for everyone.

Speak to your doctor before having a deep tissue if you have a history of:

  • blood clots

  • clotting disorder

  • taking blood thinners

  • have a bleeding disorder

  •  have cancer or undergoing cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation.

Osteoporosis or cancer that spread to the bone should avoid deep tissue massage as the firm pressure may cause a fracture.

Open wound or skin infection of any kind should avoid massage from developing new infection or making an existing one worse.

It is important to work with a qualified massage therapist.

Ask your doctor or physical therapist for a referral, ask friends or family for a recommendation.

Hot Stones

Hot Stones is a type of massage therapy that helps you relax and ease tense muscles and damaged soft tissues. Stones are smooth, flat. Heated stones are placed on specific parts of the body. Stones are made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat. Stones are heated between 130 - 145 degrees. Stones may be placed along the spine, stomach, chest, face, palms, feet and toes. Heated stones may be held by the therapist using Swedish techniques such as long strokes, circular movements, vibration, tapping, kneading. Sometimes cold stones are used after the hot stones to calm any engorged blood vessels and to soothe the skin.

Benefits of Hot Stones:

  • helps relieves muscle tension and pain

Medical Massage

Medical massage is a form of outcome-based massage. Techniques are mainly targeted for specific problems. Therapists administer these techniques after a thorough assessment of the patient's condition and needs.

There are several different types of massage therapies, but all are based on specific set of outcomes. Medical massage helps patients deal with a variety of ailments and conditions, while also making them feel comfortable. It is more detailed than a regular traditional massage.

Massage therapist will or may use other specialized tools for deep tissue work such as:

  • thera-gun

  • scraping tools

  • acupressure tools

  • cupping

  • hot stones

  • heating pad

Massage therapist may also focus on restoring full range of motion and reducing stiffness. Many massage techniques used for this purpose, and you can also expect to receive a deeper massage than normally would. Some types of massage may even be more intense, including fiber friction and vibration.

Medical massage therapist focuses on the health of a patient's muscle and joints.

Massage therapist may focus on:

  • releasing scar tissue

  • increasing range of motion

  • focuses on the fascia (the glue that holds muscles together)

Inactivity and injury can cause the fascia to become inelastic and harder. This results in poor pasture and limited movement and can eventually lead to other problems.

Doctor may recommend a particular treatment if there is no suitable alternative treatment. If pain is due to underlying cause, massage therapist will only focus on the issue and not the symptom of a disease.

The objective of medical massage is to achieve functional outcomes. Massage practitioners use targeted techniques to help client achieve better posture and reduce pain.

Unlike traditional massage, massage therapist aims to treat medical conditions whether you're suffering from chronic pain or just recovering from an injury, a medical massage will help you feel better.

Modalities are combined and the session is modified depending on the receivers need for faster recovery. Modalities: Acupressure, ART, Cupping, Deep Tissue, Gua Sha, MET, Myofascial Release, PNF, Thera-gun, Therapeutic, Trigger Points.

Prenatal

Prenatal massage is a special technique that's safer on pregnant bodies than the traditional massage. But even with extra precautions taken to keep things comfortable, there are certain circumstances when any massage even prenatal massage should be avoided.

Prenatal massage helps work out tension in the muscles and relieve body aches caused by stress or strenuous activity, helping you to relax both physically and mentally. Prenatal massage takes extra precautions to make if safe for pregnancy, like limiting how much you're lying on your stomach and avoiding certain areas of the body where extra pressure might cause discomfort of harm to the pregnant person or fetus.

Joints, ligaments and muscles tend to be put through the pregnancy process, making more room for the baby and accommodating the extra weight.

Prenatal massage can help with muscular imbalance and tension that arises in the body from the fast changes occurring within.

Common problem areas:

  • sore upper back

  • weakened lower back muscles

  • tension in the hips and legs

  • swelling in the feet

Focusing in these areas can improve mood, sleep, swelling and pain.

Talk to your doctor when is the safest time to receive a prenatal massage.

Swedish may also help reduce symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety and boost immunity. May also help in managing conditions like cold, asthma, diabetes and breast cancer.

Therapeutic

Therapeutic massage is a mobilization of the soft tissues in order to induce relaxation. Therapeutic massage uses a combination of specific massage techniques to produce a therapeutic effect. Can help reduce stress, decrease pain, and increase feeling of calmness and well-being.

Therapeutic massage can also produce many physiological effects, which benefit the body.

Massage shown to decrease cortisol, reduce blood pressure and relax muscles.

The production of stress hormones also decreases as good hormones are released. Good hormones such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine positively affect emotions and promote calm and relaxation.

It is also beneficial treatment for maintaining flexibility and improving range of motion. Treats muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments and keeping fluid within the joints and making them less prone to injury.

Nuad Boran

(Traditional Thai Massage)

Thai massage is a full body massage that uses a mixture of deep tissue pressure, muscle and joint stretching, and gentle adjustments of the body into yoga-like pose. It's a technique that has been around for thousands of years and is one of the common forms of alternative medicine in Thailand.

Similar to other types of massage, Thai massage can help relax the body and mind. Numerous studies have found clinical benefits to Thai massage, including improvement in pain, joints mobility, and muscle stiffness.

Thai massage is a traditional form of therapeutic massage that is believed the technique originated in India during the time of Buddha and then spread to Asia.

The massage occurs on a mat on the floor, in other forms of massage the person being massaged may remove their clothing during the massage, but in Thai massage the person remains dressed.

Thai massage is based on the concept that the body has 10 main energy lines called sen lines. These lines are how energy moves and is transmitted throughout the body. The idea is that when the flow of energy is blocked, the body dysfunction, discomfort, and pain arise.

Thai massage focuses on opening up and releasing through three main methods.

  • deep pressure massage

  • manipulation of the energy lines through body movements

  • stretching of muscles and joints

The massage starts with the receiver on the mat faced down, massage therapist will work through different parts of the body, moving along the different energy tracks of the body.

Typically, the massage starts with the feet and then move up along each leg, progresses to the torso, shoulders, arms, and hands. Pressure will be applied throughout the body. The therapist will be moving the body into yoga-like poses to stretch the muscles and joints. The body will be turned the left and right side massaging each side, and then the body will be turned laying on the back flat.

The entire process of the massage can usually take about 90 mins, but can last 2 hrs.

Thai massage may not be for everyone due to yoga-like poses that adds stretching, may cause rapid breathing, individuals may have restricted and limited range of motion.

Thai massage is not recommended for individuals that may have health issues.

Please talk to your doctor before participating in a Thai massage.

Thai massage can help with:

  • clearing the mind

  • improve flexibility and movement

  • improve circulation

  • increase energy

  • boosting blood circulation

  • reducing muscular soreness

  • easing the aches and pain of conditions such as insomnia, depression, rheumatism, Parkinson's and syndrome

Add On

Assisted Stretching

Assisted stretching is a form of passive stretching, which uses an outside force to stretch the muscle. Using towel, fitness straps or have a partner. It is also known as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) or PNF stretching in the physical therapy field.

You may be familiar with dynamic stretching, which involves moving your joints and muscles repeatedly in the same motion before physical activity to help improve power and coordination.

You have heard of static active stretching, which is based on holding a stretch as far as you can go as for a set length of time, normally 30 to 90 seconds and increasing hold as desire. This is to improve flexibility and improve balance.

With a partner assisted stretching can help focus on stretching out specific areas to increase range of motion.

Benefits of assisted stretching:

  • reduces stiffness and tension in the muscles

  • adds elasticity to the muscles

  • increasing range of motion

Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique that some people to ease pain. It is traditional medicine that originated in China and West Asia that has been practiced for thousands of years.

Cupping uses suction to draw blood to or away specific areas of the body.

People mostly use cupping to relieve conditions that cause pain, and some say it also helps with chronic health issues.

Cupping may ease symptoms of:

  • arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis

  • back, neck, knee and shoulder pain

  • asthma and other breathing issues

  • carpal tunnel syndrome

  • gastrointestinal (GI) disorder, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • headaches and migraines

  • high blood pressure

Suction from the cup draws fluids into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin. The body replenishes the cupped areas with healthier blood flow and stimulates proper and normal healing at a cellular level. Because of this effect, some people think that cupping releases toxin.

Some cupping methods include:

  • DRY - the traditional method involves setting an alcohol-soaked cotton ball aflame. The heat sends oxygen out of the cup creating a vacuum.

  • RUNNING - like dry cupping. Before beginning lotion or oil is applied on the skin. Once cups are places, cups are gently moved in different direction over the affected areas of the body.

  • BLEEDING - uses needle to lightly puncture the skin before placing the cups. This allows for the release of toxins through the suctioned blood captured in the cup (this method is practiced in other countries)

Depending on the treatment. Multiple cups may be placed on the body from 3, 5, 7 cups in a single treatment.

Types of cups being used are bamboo, ceramic, metal and silicone.

Cupping shouldn't cause any pain, though you experience skin tightness during the process. After cupping therapy, you may feel bruised and slightly sore, but shouldn't have severe discomfort.

You'll have red, round marks that should fade in a week or two. Although these marks will look like bruises, they are not bruises that injure muscle fibers.

Benefits of cupping:

  • reduces pain and inflammation

  • decreases muscle tightness

  • improves blood flow

  • increases range of motion

Low-risk and may experience:

  • bruising

  • burns from heated cups

  • fatigue

  • headaches

  • muscle tension or soreness

  • nausea

  • skin infections, itching or scarring

In rare cases may develop vasovagal syncope (fainting after a drop blood pressure and heart rate)

This is common after wet cupping for people who pass out with needle sticks.

Cupping is not intended and should be avoided during pregnancy.

Should be avoided if you have:

  • anemia

  • a pacemaker

  • bleeding disorder like hemophilia

  • blood clotting problems, like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or a history of stroke

  • cardiovascular disease

  • skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis

  • seizures (epilepsy)

Cupping is not for everyone, even though it's low risk of complications.

Talk to your doctor before trying cupping treatment.

I was hire by a chiropractor to do a chair massage for their office at a company's health wellness fair.

Massage school classmate contacted me and told me he needed my help with a chair massage event for his client. I contacted another awesome massage therapist to help with the event. It was a pleasure to be there to help him with the event. The day was great for an outdoor chair massage underneath a huge tree at Kennolyn Camps in Soquel, Santa Cruz.
